SPECIALIST Engineering Asia (SEA) Sdn Bhd is upbeat with the recent boom in the construction industry down South.

"We are experiencing growth in East Malaysia, particularly in the Sarawak region," its Chief Executive Officer Eugene Lim is optimistic about the Malaysian construction industry's prospects. The Market Research Future projected the industry to expand from USD 53.93 billion in 2025 to USD 117.14 billion by 2034, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.00% during this period.

“Our Sarawak projects are already underway, and we are now seeing several new projects on the horizon in the state of Johor,” Lim said. "Although overall, the market has not turned around fully, there are still opportunities out there; hence, we remain positive in our outlook."

Lim believes that while the building industry for retail and high rise market may still appear gloomy and the infrastructure bridge works have seen a number of people out of job in Malaysia, we are confident that the situation will improve in the long term.

Aaron Chew, SEA’s project manager, highlighted that the company's collaboration with CCECC (M) Sdn Bhd has recently led to the successful completion of tendon installation and stressing works for the Transfer Plate at Coronation Square in Johor.

“The project was executed with precision and efficiency, and despite the challenges, we met tight deadlines,” Chew noted.

In Tampoi, Chew also mentioned that the post-tensioned slabs for the car park at Tampoi Heights are progressing smoothly. “We’re excited to soon begin the three Transfer Plates alongside our main contractor, YHY Resources Sdn Bhd,” he added.

SEA has also recently started its next major project – the Adison Serviced Apartments at the Johor Golf & Country Club (JGCC), where post-tensioning works are set to begin soon. This project is managed by Fajarbaru Builder Group Bhd.

“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Fajarbaru Builder Group again after successfully completing their Pavilion Mont Kiara project,” Chew concluded.

Meanwhile, Chew added that in the Klang Valley, they are seeing repeated jobs by their existing customers, boosting the company's growth since last year.
